Known as the "Hawkeye" State, Iowa was admitted to the union in 1846. The capitol of the state is Des Moines. In the heart of the

Herbert Hoover Presidential Library & Museum and Birthplace Cottage are located in West Branch, where visitors can tour
President Hoover's birthplace cottage, a reconstructed blacksmith shop, and a one-room schoolhouse.
You can visit the Buffalo Bill Museum in Le Claire, Iowa. This tribute to legendary native "Buffalo Bill" Cody is also a
memorial to American Indians, pioneers and steamboat days. View the "Lone Star Steamer," the last wooden-hull stern wheeler,
and see the famous Green Tree, a Mississippi River landmark.
Look for the Iowa Scenic Byway. It's a great drive. Brake for Amish buggies. Iowa Scenic Byways detour toward river valleys,
wildlife
refuges, and countryside inns.
